It’s not for the stylistically faint of heart, with lashings of intricate wallpapers adorning not just walls but ceilings in every room.

The place
While minimalists need not apply, those looking for characterful boutique Queenstown accommodation are likely to be utterly charmed by Naumi Hotels’ recently made over The Dairy Private Hotel.

Located at the foot of the hill that leads to the Skyline Gondola and Bob’s Peak, The Dairy is built around Queenstown’s original dairy dating back to the 1920s and houses 13 ensuite rooms as well as a large four-bedroom apartment with its own entrance.

There’s no reception, instead after a personal welcome from the concierge you’re given a pincode for the front door and invited to make the place your own – your room and the shared spaces that is, which include a snug-yet-spacious living room, library/whisky-imbibing nook and a small front terrace with café-style tables and chairs and an outdoor fireplace.
